Santa Cruz: How to Determine Exempt vs. Non-Exempt Employees

As an employer, it is your responsibility to classify your workers correctly for legal and tax reasons. This class is designed to help businesses make determinations on whether or not employees are exempt or non-exempt employees. Benjamin Slade will provide insights and the framework on how to determine their Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) status.

Attendees will gain:

-Knowledge to assess positions regarding their exempt / non-exempt status

-Knowledge of the different exemption categories

-Wage requirements regarding exemptions

Benjamin Slade is a HR professional with over 9 years of related experience and has recently joined SBDC as an HR Advisor in June 2021 assisting our small business community. He holds an MBA from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and SHRM-CP certification. He served 10 years in the Army National Guard as an Arabic Linguist. He enjoys working with small businesses as a way to build the community and create and keep jobs in the local area.
